What you need to Know…

Work Experience Dates

The program will be conducted over two weeks:

Week 1: Monday, 22nd September – Friday, 26th September (final week of Term 3)

Week 2: Monday, 29th September – Friday, 3rd November (first week of the school holidays)

We endeavor to group interested students and place a minimum of two students in one company. You will be required to host a student(s) over one, or both weeks depending on the student’s preference and how many students you can host.

Goal for this week

After the week of work experience, we want the girls to leave with the following:

  • a good overview of what you and your collogues do;

  • having had a go at a small version of your daily tasks - we endeavor to provide an experience, not just a show;

  • a good impression of the construction industry, the work culture and the people working in it;

  • a smile on their faces and a good story to tell.

Insurance

The student(s) will be covered either by the school’s insurance or, be requested to take out their own insurance.

Supervision

While the students can participate in activities with different groups and supervisors, we request you allocate a mentor to your student(s). The mentor:

  • is the go to person for the students and should present a friendly face the students can relate to;

  • should allocate 30 min per day to check in and double check that the week is going smoothly;

  • should contact us if issues come up in the daily check ins;

  • must hold a current Working with Children Check (WWCC).

Tool Kit

We will provide a tool kit which will provide guidance and ideas around the type of activities the student(s) can undertake. The kit is intended to provide some pointers and inspiration for companies that do not have an existing work experience program.

Marketing

We will release marketing material after the program such as students sharing their stories. We encourage the mentors and students to take as many photos and videos as possible. This will ensure your company will receive the kudos it deserves on our socials.

Agreement

We request you complete an agreement for this program to ensure each parties responsibilities are clear. We will provide the draft agreement along with the proposed student placement end of August.

TWIC is a volunteer-run organisation without significant resource for knowledge sharing or support.
