What does an Associate Director in Architecture actually do? As an Associate Director I work with my team of architects on multiple projects. As architects we design places and buildings based on project needs and a client brief, whilst ensuring the design solutions we offer are well aligned to the wider context and society.
What does a day in your life at work look like? Lots of meetings, presentations and designing.
What's the best part of your job? Working with a team and the opportunity to design building/places that are meaningful.
What made you realise construction could be for you? I was influenced by my Dad who was a structural engineer and my mum who was very artistic.
What would you tell your high school self about working in construction? Don't be afraid that you will get stuck with something that you don't like, as the opportunities and career pathways are endless in this industry.
Tell us about a favourite project you're working on. I'm currently working on 8 storey social affordable housing building made from mass Timber. It is a great initiative at all levels and by everyone involved. The environmental and social impacts it offers are huge.
What are you excited about in terms of sustainability in construction? There are immense possibilities here. The best part is that every one of us is aware of the importance of sustainability. It's now time for action.
